Cabinet Clears Food Security Bill

Due to more starvation among the poor, centre took a step to provide food security to the poor. The government sunday approved food security bill by which 63.% of the country's  population will get benefit.

Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1949) recognizes the right of everyone to adequate food.

The Cabinet, presided by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, gave green signal to the draft National Food Security Bill. The Bill is expected to be tabled in ongoing parliament session.

the food subsidy bill is expected to rise by Rs 27,663 crore at nearly Rs 95,000 crore, while foodgrains requirement would go up to 61 million tonnes from 55 million tonnes, as per the Cabinet proposal.

The bill seeks to provide 7 kg of rice, wheat and coarse grains to all people below poverty line every month at Rs 3, Rs 2 and Rs 1 per kg. In rural area, up to 75% and in urban area 50% of people will be covered by this new bill.
